The Fellowship of the Ring  - J.R.R. Tolkien



The Council of Elrond is fascinating because if Tolkien hadn't done it correctly the chapter would have read as a massive "infodump".  Instead Tolkien weaves the character's detailing of events in a way that gives the reader a glimpse at the whole of Middle Earth as well as underscoring the dangerous situation developing by the actions of the Shadow.
